Photoshop Book Cover Design

Book cover design Photoshop tutorial in less than ten layers Book cover design generally takes longer to prepare for than it actually does to put together. It took me around 45 minutes to gather the elements I needed for the book cover and only 15 minutes to actually design it. I have kept the design very simple so that a beginner could achieve similar results. So, let’s cut the talk and show you how you can very easily design a book cover like the one above. Book cover template Now is the time to open up Photoshop and that book cover template we created in part one complete with guides for bleed that is set to CMYK so that our end result is print ready. Our book is based on a 5.5″ x 8.5″ end product. When you go searching for your images to use in your book, this translates to 1688 × 2625 pixels because of the difference between 300ppi print ready resolution and the web’s paltry...

Tutorial for Designing your Custom Labels + Photoshop Template

Hi everyone! I realized that in my past posts about the custom fabric labels I did not include how to design your label in Photoshop for upload to Spoonflower’s website. After you have created your design go to Edit>Define Pattern… Name Your design whatever you would like and hit Ok Now go to File>New… Create a document with a Transparent   Background  and with the dimensions listed above.  If the picture above is too small for you to see they are:  Width: 2700 pixels Height: 3150 pixels Resolution: 150 RGB Color ...

Calligraphy Text Effect in Photoshop

Last week I posted some articles about typography and received quite a few emails asking me to create a tutorial on text effects. So I decided to play a bit with Photoshop to create a nice sort of 3D effect using a calligraphy font and a lot of Layer Styles. The effect is really simple and we will take a look at how to create patterns and light effects with Blend Modes. Step 1 Open Photoshop and create a new document, I used 1920x1200 pixels for the Size . Then fill the background with a very dark color #1f1e1e. Step 2 With the Background layer selected go to Layer>Layer Style>Gradient Overlay . Choose grey (# 707070 ) and white for the colors. Change the Blend Mode to Multiply and the Opacity to 60% . The Style will be Radial . Make sure that the white is in the center. What will happen is that as we're using multiply the edges of the image will be darker. I'm applying this gradient via layer styles because I want to add a filter to the...
