Create a 3D Gold Text Effects

In this tutorial, I will be teaching you how to create an awesome 3D Gold Text Effect in Photoshop. We will be using several layers styles and a metal texture to give the gold text a more realistic appearance. Let’s get started!

Step 1)

Open Photoshop and go to File > New (or CTRL+N) to create a new document. I will be creating a 900 pixels x 400  pixels document at 72 pixels/inch resolution. Color Mode: RGB 8 bit. Background: Transparent.

Step 2)

Go to Edit > Fill > Color… and use the color code #797c80 to fill the background.

Step 3)

Right click the layer and go to Blending Options. We will now set the layer styles using the settings below.
Inner Glow – Blend Mode: Normal, Opacity: 43%, Color: #000000, Size: 90px

Gradient Overlay – Blend Mode: Soft Light, Opacity: 90%, Gradient: #db1b1c-#900000, Style: Radial, Angle: 90

Pattern Overlay – Blend Mode: Soft Light, Pattern: Using the dropdown we will go to Load Patterns and choose the bg-pattern.pat file that was including at the top.

Step 4)

Set foreground color to #d3aa2d. Using the horizontal type tool we will now write out text using settings – Font: Bebas Neue, Font-Size: 300px, Tracking: 10

Right click the text layer and go to Blending Options. We will now set the layer styles using the settings below.

Pattern Overlay – Blend Mode: Overlay, Pattern: Using the dropdown we will go to Load Patterns and choose the metal-texture.pat file that was including at the top, Scale: 25%

Drop Shadow – Blend Mode: Linear Burn #000000, Opacity: 25%, Angle: 120, Distance: 2px, Size: 10px

Step 6)

Right click the text layer and duplicate it. Right click the new copy layer and click Clear Layer Styles. Open Character tab now (if you dont have it check it under Window > Character) and set tracking to 10.

Step 7)

Right click the top copy text layer we just created now and go to Blending Options. We will now set the layer styles using the settings below.

Now we need to align the text layers so the 3D effect is appropriate. Select both text layers by clicking one then holding CTRL down while clicking the other. With both selected go to Select > All (CTRL+A), choose the Move Tool and click on Align vertical centers and Align horizontal centers. We are done now!
